The Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism is looking for an individual who would like to work with adults with autism to empower them to achieve their social, emotional, and vocational goals. We believe that all individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder should have the opportunity whenever possible to integrate into their community and become fully participating members of society. All clients in this program are over the age of 19. This is a supervisory position, so involves being able to work with all clients in the program as well as perform supervisory tasks. This is not a desk job — the majority of time will be spent working directly with clients.
JOB DESCRIPTION
As the Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:
- Supervise all staff working in the adult program. Offering guidance and training as needed. Participate in staff evaluations and hiring process as required. Hold staff meetings.
- Ensure the well-being of the person served in the program including behaviour management, self-care tasks, welfare and safety. Review daily communications.
- Case manage the persons served including program development.
- Must be able to work with all clients and schedule staffing including covering any staff shortages.
- Reporting maintenance issues to the Executive Director.
- Communicate to Executive Director, parents, caregivers and other professionals.
- Ensure documents are completed as per standards.
- Report to Executive Director. Attend meetings as required.
- Additional responsibilities as required.
This position involves working with new or existing clients in our program, who have come to us from CLBC (Community Living British Columbia). Each client will have an individual program designed to suit their social, emotional and vocational goals. The clients in our community inclusion program take part in numerous activities, so the successful applicant must be comfortable swimming, going to restaurants, and taking part in recreational activities with their client(s). It is a requirement of the job to take part in these activities.
Clients may also have a personal care plan, so it is important that staff is comfortable in assisting with those plans and also respecting the privacy of our clients. The clients in our program do have diverse abilities, and our staff work with them at both our adult program location as well as in the community. The job involves a combination of group work as well as individual one-to-one work.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Class 5 Driver’s License and a reliable car to transport clients.
- Clear criminal record check to work with vulnerable persons.
- Current First Aid
- Previous experience working with individuals with autism or other diverse abilities is required.
DAYS/HOURS OF WORK
The program operates Monday through Friday, generally between the hours of 8 AM and 6 PM. The exact hours of shifts will be agreed upon at time of hire. Should there be occasion for you to work overtime, you will be paid the overtime rates in accordance with the BC Employment Standards Act.
Each of our clients is a unique individual. Some clients may experience behaviours when dysregulated. Some clients may need additional assistance in personal care matters. Some clients may love crafts. Some clients may love swimming or bowling. Each of our clients is a valuable member of our family and their well being is our top priority. This is not a desk job — staff will partake in activities with our clients, usually on a one-to-one basis, with occasional group activities depending on the client’s personal planning.
All provincial guidelines and restrictions relating to COVID-19 protocols will be followed. COVID-19 vaccination status must be disclosed as it is a requirement of some of our contracts that staff be vaccinated to work with clients.
