School and Community Support Worker Description
Our day program is a Monday through Friday program run from September through June designed to meet the needs of children between the ages of 5 to 12 years. Children attend the Centre in place of attending their home school, or they attend the Centre part-time during the week with remainder of the week being spent in their home school. The goal for all children is to prepare them for an integrated classroom setting in their neighbourhood school (if enrolled in a brick and mortar school). This program takes place within a group setting. Our extended program is for children aged 6 to 18 and provides intensive, goal-oriented intervention services in an environment outside the child’s educational program. An individualized program is created to match the child’s developmental level and learning strengths and areas of concerns. This program generally takes place within a one-on-one setting. This program involves working with clients to develop skills in gross and fine motor skills, cognitive development and social, behavioural and emotional development. Each client has a program made for their abilities and area of skill obtainment. This is a therapeutic program, not an academic program, and will involve assisting children in working through challenging behaviours.
Community Inclusion Worker Description
Our Community Inclusion Worker program will involve working with individuals ages 19 and up with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Successful applicants will work with clients to develop skills in gross and fine motor skills, cognitive development and social, behavioural and emotional development. Each client has a program tailor-made for their abilities and area of skill obtainment. This is not a desk job — staff will partake in activities with our clients, usually on a one-to-one basis, with occasional group activities depending on the client’s personal planning. Clients in our adult program may also have personal care plans and behaviour plans unique to them. This can include needing assistance with toileting, and may also include being there for the client if they are having a behaviour episode. While there are some group activities, the majority of the time it is only the worker and the client.
