Do you love helping people find their own pathways to success? Do you have a passion for helping adults with autism spectrum disorder discover their individual pathways to success?
The Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism in Kamloops, British Columbia, has positions open for individuals to work with the young men and women who attend our community inclusion program, which works directly with adults with autism spectrum disorder (ages 19 and up). All positions will include the opportunity for relief / on-call, and there is a possibility of more hours as shifts become available.
The successful candidate will be responsible to work with individuals ages 19 and up with Autism Spectrum Disorder in our Community Inclusion Program. Successful applicants will work with clients to develop skills in gross and fine motor skills, cognitive development and social, behavioural and emotional development. Each client has a program tailor made for their abilities and area of skill obtainment.
Clients in our adult program may also have personal care plans and behaviour plans unique to them. This is not a desk job — staff will partake in activities with our clients, usually on a one-to-one basis, with occasional group activities depending on the client’s personal planning. These are not desk jobs — our staff are out in the community with the individuals they work with, and will be required to transport them to and from their activities.
This position will involve working one-on-one with adults with autism spectrum disorder. Depending on the client, they have different personal care plans, and may experience different behaviour challenges. This can include needing assistance with toileting, and may also include being there for the client if they are having a behaviour episode. While there are some group activities, the majority of the time it is only the worker and the client.
Job Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a Criminal Records Check (vulnerable sector).
- 19 years or older.
- Valid Emergency First Aid – Community Care (or equivalent)
- Valid BC Driver’s License (Class 5), clean driving record and a reliable car to transport clients.
- Must be comfortable swimming in the water with the person they are working with.
Specific shifts will be discussed during the interview. Applicants must meet all five of the job requirements to be eligible for the position. Benefits are available to staff who are scheduled to work 24 or more hours a week (and maintain that schedule) upon successful completion of the probation period. This job will involve assisting adults with autism spectrum disorder in working through challenging behaviours, and preference will be given to those with experience.
All provincial guidelines and restrictions relating to COVID-19 protocols will be followed. COVID-19 vaccination status must be disclosed as it is a requirement of some of our contracts that staff be vaccinated to work with clients.
